Recreation
The Buffalo Grove community offers many activities for its residents. Approximately 400 acres are devoted to 45 park sites that provide playgrounds, athletic fields, lakes, tennis courts, bike paths, and picnic areas. There are two public golf courses, totaling over 240 acres, owned and operated by the village. Additionally, there are indoor and outdoor swimming facilities, and many other recreational activities and courses offered through its park district.
Schools
Cook County Elementary School District #21 in addition to the 3 Lake County school districts: Countryside District #96; Aptakisic-Tripp District #102; or Lincolnshire-Prairie View District #103. A parochial school is located in the community. High school students in the Lake County portion of the village attend Adlai E. Stevenson High School, while Cook County students attend Buffalo Grove High School.

Housing development over the past 15 years has produced a mix of single family homes, townhouses, condominiums, apartments, and duplexes. The 2000 median house value was $236,200 and the median rent cost was $1,079. (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000)
Government Services
The Buffalo Grove Police Department's 76 sworn officers serve the village. Fire protection is provided by the full-time Buffalo Grove Fire Department's 57 firefighters at three stations.
